This month we are celebrating our graduate Tianna Williams Powell, who gained a 1st for the BA (Hons) Diverse Dance styles degree in 2022. Joining the programme in the 2nd year from a musical theatre background, Tianna wanted to gain a broader cultural experience and strengthen her dance base with diverse styles. During her time at IRIE! she was part of Connectingvibes*, (performance company attached to the course,) later going on to become a trustee. You will see from her thoughts below that Tianna has successfully managed to marry her different training experiences into one, to gain a very exciting performance opportunity. We cannot wait to catch the production and see the next chapter of her life unfold. Well Done Tianna!
Hello, my name is Tianna Williams-Powell, and I am a Professional Performance Artist who studied at IRIE! dance Theatre from 2020-2022. Studying at IRIE! was a thrilling time for me where I learned about culture, my deeper self and knowledge around African and Caribbean Folklore dance/theatre. IRIE! Is a place I learnt to develop my craft as a performer and as a person, the staff at IRIE! are like one big family, constantly available to help, develop and strengthen you as an artist into the industry world, always putting your values first as a developing talent.
Recently in 2024 I gained my first professional credit with a Scottish Company by the Name Neo Productions in an all-new stage production, an African dance based musical theatre show about 10 historical African women called “10 Times Beautiful” in which I have been cast to open the show.
I have IRIE! to thank for its support and amazing work during my time as a student if you are looking for a place that combines culture, professionalism, development and community IRIE! dance theatre is a perfect place to do this!
